One can attend the Annual Covered Bridge Festival which celebrates the bridges and the local heritage every second full of weekend in the month of October. The Clark Tower which is located in Winterset City Park is yet another breathtaking view in the surrounding Middle river Valley area.

Then there is the Madison County Courthouse which was built in 1868 in the middle of town square. This courthouse was rebuilt in 1876 after a fire broke in. Further, there is also the famous landmark, the John Wayne Birthplace Museum which is not that far off from the downtown area.

There are also some famous residents who live in this city. These include John Wayne, George Washington Carver, Fred Clarke, Henry A Wallace and Henry J B Cummings. One can visit the North River Stone Schoolhouse which was built in 1874. This school house is of native limestone and was in continuous use until 1945. At present, it is regarded as the National Register of Historic Places.
