Juneau is the capital of the US state of Alaska. It is a city and borough located on the Gastineau Channel on the Alexander Archipelago of Alaska. Juneau shares its eastern border with the Canadian province of British Columbia.
Due to its location in the largest rainforest in Northern America, the Tongass Rainforest, Juneau experiences a mild maritime climate. The average high temperature in summers is 18°C while the average low temperature in winters is –4°C. Juneau receives, on average, 1400 to 2300 mm of rainfall and 257 cm snowfall annually.
Juneau has a population of roughly 31,000 people. Early settlers of the city included miners during Alaska’s gold rush and Russian fur traders. The economy of Juneau depends on local, state and federal government, tourism, mining, fishing and logging.
