Kailua-Kona offers a variety of recreational activities on its breathtaking landscape. Founded in 1838, Hulihe’e Palace is definitely worth a visit. Another site that must be missed is the Mokuaikaua Church, which was founded in1836 by Boston missionaries. Other sites of interest, particularly to history lovers, include Kamakahonu, Kamuela Museum, Ellison S Onizuka Space Center, Lekeleke Burial Ground and Ahuena Heiau.
Adventure lovers should definitely the Kula Kai Caverns and Lava Tubes, which provides the most spectacular sights. Some of the attractions include Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii, Ocean Rider Seahorse Farm, Kona Brewing Company, Mauna Kea Summit, Makalawena/Pu’u Ali’I, Magic Sands, Rainbow Falls, Living Ocean Adventures, White Sand Beach, Kona Coast State Park, Saddle Road and Kaloko-Honokohau National Park.
Kona and Kailua Piers lined with several shops and restaurants are a must visit.
