Tourist Guide Atchison
Atchison can be referred to as a city located along the banks of ‘Missouri River’ in eastern portion of ‘Atchison County’, north-east Kansas, central US. Furthermore, it’s county seat as well as the most densely populated city in Atchison County. The name ‘Atchison’ has been derived from ‘David Rice Atchison’, US senator from ‘Missouri’. Originally, it was eastern terminus relating to ‘Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad’.
This city is best known as aviatrix ‘Amelia Earhart’s birthplace. The ‘Amelia Earhart Festival’ that is held every July goes on to attract around 30000 to 50000 people.
As per US Census Bureau, the area on the whole is 18.7 sq. Km; out of which 5.27% consists of water. Temperatures range between 15 degree F (in January) and 90 degree F (in July).
The population as per 2006 census was 10154. Per capita income was $14441. Around 17% of population was under ‘poverty line’.
