The residents of the state are called ‘Kansans’. Many of the African-Americans are descendants of the Exodusters (African Americans who fled the South and came to Kansas following the Civil War). Persons with German ancestry most inhabit in the northwest, while the British and White American communities are stronger in the southeast region. A prime attraction is the OZ Museum which, apart from housing memorabilia of the beloved 1939 musical, has many education exhibits to enthral guests. Experience a trip through time with a visit to the Boot Hill Museum which preserves the history of early Doge City and the Old West, alongside displaying authentic artefacts. The Old Cow Town in Wichita has over 40 historical buildings furnished in the style of the nineteenth century, while the Mid-America Air Museum has the fifth largest collection of military and civilian aircraft in the United States. Kansas’ popular events include the Country Stampede Music Festival in June, the Walnut Valley Festival which is usually held in September and the Kansas Book Festival in October. Of particular interest is the Fiesta Mexicana which lasts for five days (in mid-July) and is a full-blown display of Mexican culture, food, music and dance.
