Lawrence is the county seat and the sixth largest city in the Douglas County. It is placed in the northeastern part of Kansas.

The population of the city is 89,852.

This is a college town and house to two universities, Haskell Indian Nations University and University of Kansas.

The city was founded in 1854; it is named after Amos Adams Lawrence, who is a prominent politician.
