Phillipsburg can be described as a city located in ‘Phillips County, Kansas, US’. It’s also Phillips County’s county seat.
Phillipsburg lies in middle of ‘Phillips County’ in Kansas’s northern part, at an approximate distance of 20 miles with respect to Nebraska border. As per US census Bureau, total area is 4.1 sq. Km (all land).
The name ‘Phillipsburg’ has been derived from William A Phillips, a politician as well as ‘Civil War’ colonel. It has also been believed that William Phillips, one of the ‘Free-State Supporters’ who has been assassinated on 1st of September, 1856 was the inspiration behind nomenclature of Phillips County.
Phillipsburg witnessed tremendous growth between late eighteenth and early nineteenth century. It had been founded in the year 1872. The credit for this progress can be given to Rock Island railroad that went via this place. In the year 1951, an oil-refinery was constructed on northern edge which aided local economy till it got closed down in 1980s.
Right now, the main source of revenue is ‘TAMKO building products’.
