Topeka is the capital city of Kansas, USA. It is the county seat of Shawnee County.

With an area of 147.6 sq km, the city lies in north-east Kansas along both the banks of the Kansas River. Soldier and Shunganunga Creeks, which are tributaries of the Kansas River, run through the city.

Topeka is characterised by humid continental climate having hot and humid summers and cool too cold, fairly dry winters. The average annual temperature is 18°C. January has an average temperature of –3°C while July has a mean temperature of 25°C.

The approximate population of Topeka is 122,400. More than 50% of the economy is dominated by the service sector. Some of the products produced and manufactured by Topeka are flour, dairy products, meats and poultry, pet foods, steel fixtures, culverts, tanks, baskets and medicines.
