The Old Cowtown Museum in Wichita, Kansas transports you back to a time of pioneers, covered wagons, cowboys and general stores. Located at 1865 West Museum Boulevard, this fun-spirited museum is frozen in time in the 1870s. The town is filled with buildings you would find during that era, like a saloon, where you can try a typical drink, homes and a blacksmith. Interactive experiences allow visitors to feel like actual members of the community as they wander through areas like the Hunter/Trader, Business and Residential areas.
The museum utilizes a combination of historic buildings, artifacts, interactive exhibitions and historic reenactments to engage visitors in an entertaining and hands-on educational experience. Collections of primary source material, such as photographs, letters and documents, put visitors eerily close to the pioneers who came before our time; other artifacts like furniture, clothing and tools give a better impression of everyday life for Americans in the 1870s, which is the very crux of the Cowtown Museum’s mission.
