University of Louisville can be described as a research university supported by Kentucky State. It had served as one of the municipally supported public institutions for several decades before having joined university system; i.e. till the year 1970. The present scenario is such that the university has 3 campuses. Out of them, Belknap Campus houses 7 out of eleven schools and colleges affiliated to it.
