Alexandria is a city which is situated on the southern bank of the Red River which is in the midst of the state of Louisiana. The city covers an area of 27 sq miles and has an elevation of 75 feet. The city lies in the midst of the Longleaf Pine forests in Louisiana and is on a plain level with a number of hardwoods and lakes flowing throughout the city.
Alexandria has humid subtropical climatic conditions with mild winters and hot and humid summers. The city receives plenty of rainfall but snowfall is occasional. As per the 2000 census the city has a population of 46,342 with a fifty percent population of African Americans. It also has a high Roman Catholic population and a small category of Jewish residents.
