Alexandria has a number of outdoor attractions such as parks and zoos. The Alexandria Zoological Park has more than 600 animals from across the world. The Cotile Lake and the Indian Creek Lake have several recreational areas such as water skiing, camping, swimming, boating and more.
One can visit the Alexandria History Museum to get more information about the history of the city. Art lovers can visit the Alexandria Museum of Art which is now registered on the National Historic Register. A number of annual events and festivals are held in the city. One such event is the Mardi Gras, which has an annual parade with a number of schools and colleges participating in it.
To celebrate Labor Day at the end of summer a festival called Cenlabration is organized with fireworks display, carnival rides for kids as well as music and arts and craft displays. Jazz on the River is another local musical festival held on the banks of the Red River in the month of April. The Rapides Symphony Orchestra is a band which has been performing for the last 40 years in the Coughlin Saunders Performing Art Center and has a reputation of playing fine music.
