Tourist Guide Franklin
Franklin can be mentioned as a city located in St. Mary parish, Louisiana, US. It’s a portion of ‘Morgan City Micropolitan Statistical Area’.
The name ‘Franklin’ has been derived from the well-known scientist ‘Benjamin Franklin’. The year 1808 witnessed its discovery. At that time, it was known as ‘Carlin’s Settlement’. In the year 1811, it went on to become ‘parish seat’. The incorporation took place in the year 1820. Even though the earliest settlers were inclusive of Irish, Danish, German, Acadian, and French, the architecture and culture is greatly influenced by unusually huge numbers of ‘English’ which chose to have settled there following ‘Louisiana Purchase’ in the year 1803. This city emerged as a sugar port (on the interior level); thanks to coming up of various big sugar plantations within the region.
As per US Census Bureau, Franklin’s total area consisted of 27.2 sq. Km; out of which 0.3 sq. Km is water. Climate is pleasant.
The population as per 2000 census was 8354.
