Gretna stands on Mississippi River’s west bank; just east as well as across this river from ‘uptown New Orleans’. This city is also a portion of ‘New Orleans-Metairie-Kenner metropolitan Statistical Area’.
Gretna, originally known as ‘Mechanicsham’, got settled in the year 1836. The incorporation took place in the year 1913; with absorption of McDonogh’s section in boundaries of Jefferson Parish.
