Hammond can be described as the biggest city located in ‘Tangipahoa Parish’ Louisiana, US’.
Hammond is a home to ‘Southeastern Louisiana University’. It was also ‘home base’ with regards to production of 1st season of ‘NBC television series’, i.e. ‘In the Heat of the Night’. This city is also one of the principal cities of ‘Hammond Micropolitan Statistical Area’ that is inclusive of ‘Tangipahoa Parish’.
The name ‘Hammond’ has been derived from ‘Peter Hammond’, one of the immigrants from Sweden; who was the first one to have settled the region in around 1818.
As per US Census Bureau, Hammond’s total area consists of 33 sq. Km; out of which 0.08% consists of water. The climate is cool. Hence, summer season would prove to be perfect in terms of visit.
As of 2000 census, population of Hammond was 17639; with density of 534.2 per sq. Km. Per capita income was $15145. 32.8% of population had been under poverty line.
