Houma can be referred to as Terrebonne Parish’s parish seat; located in Louisiana, US. Moreover, it’s the biggest principal place of Houma-Bayou Cane-Thibodaux Metropolitan Statistical Area. This place’s powers of ‘government’ have already been absorbed by parish. At present, it’s being run by Terrebone Parish Consolidated Government.

The year 1810 witnessed discovery of Houma. The incorporation took place in the year 1848. It was again incorporated in the year 1898.
 
As per US Census Bureau, area of Houma on the whole is 37 sq. Km; out of which 36.3 sq. Km consists of land. The climate is cool. Hence, it’s advisable to visit this place during the summers.

The population as per 2000 census was 32393. Its density was 891.4 per sq. Km. Per capita income with regards to Houma was $17720. Around 20.8% of total population was reported to be below poverty line.

Houma is steeped in ‘Cajun’ culture and tradition.
