Lafayette is a well known city that is present in the Lafayette Parish, a district in Louisiana in the United States.
It is declared as the fourth largest city in the state with a land spanning 123.5 sq. kilometres. It is situated along the banks of the Vermillon River. It is a part of the combination of Lafayette-Acadenia administration.
This area deserves to be called as a metropolis because of its various growth and development factors. It is nearer to the Acadenia city border and comes in the western part of the Parish.
This industry is based on many natural resources below its layer of earth. In the first half of the nineteenth century the people here used only agriculture as their main occupation but gradually petroleum and natural gas have gained stage and helped boom this city’s economy.
This led to a vast increase in population from 110, 257 in 2000 to 256,494, if calculated in 2007. This city was named after General Lafayette.
