This is a cultural and educational hub in the southwest region of the state and also the most important in Acadiana. Lake Charles is the parish seat of Calcasieu Parish.
This is the principal city of the Lake Charles Metropolitan Statistical Area including the parishes of Calcasieu and Cameron. Lake Charles is also part of the larger Lake Charles-Jennings Combined Statistical Area.
Lake Charles is a major petrochemical refining center, gaming center, and also home to McNeese State University and the up-and-coming SOWELA Technical Community College.
More than over 75 festivals are held annually, Lake Charles is also called the Festival Capital of Louisiana. The Central School Arts and Humanities Center is a site featured on the Louisiana African American Heritage Trail.
