Natchitoches is a city of Natchitoches Parish. It is also the parish seat and was established in 1714 by Juchereau de St. Denis as a part of French Louisiana. This city was named after the Natchitoches Indian tribe. This city was first incorporated in 1819. As the oldest permanent settlement in the Louisiana Purchase, its sister city is Nacogdoches in Texas.
