The incidents of crime are high in the city of New Orleans and one may come across inebriated people walking in the night on lonely streets.
The best thing is to avoid going out in lonely areas at night just as in any other major city in the world.
Also do not encourage street hustlers and keep your wits about you. Refrain from visiting only tourist areas and that too in the day with groups.
Keep your wallet in a safe place while traveling and avoid suspicious people.
As the city lies on the Mississippi River Delta a strong hurricane could disrupt life in the city as much of the city is below sea level.
