Although perhaps best known for Bourbon Street, New Orleans has many vibrant neighborhoods for tourists to explore, one of them being West End. West End, located in the Lakeview District, is a shipping hub famous for its marinas and amazing seafood restaurants.
If you want to enjoy fresh seafood, head on over to Captain Sid's or Schaefer's Seafood. The abundance of bars and coffee shops makes West End the ideal destination for travelers looking for a relaxing afternoon/evening hangout. Unfortunately, some of the more historic and well-known restaurants in the area, such as Brunings, were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, as West End is located right on the harbor and thus took the brunt of the damage from the storm.
However, much of West End has been restored nowadays, so tourists can feel free to amble along the harbor and look out at the boats and fishermen bringing in fresh seafood, as they have done for decades in this area. There has been some gentrification in the area, as many modern condominium complexes are visible close to the waterfront.
