Lowell city is the 4th largest in the Massachusetts State of the United States. It is the county seat of Middlesex County.
Lowell is surrounded by number of towns and cities. These include Tyngsboro, Chelmsford, Billerica, Tewksbury and Dracut.
In 1999, Lowell received the prestigious award of 'All America City'.
Initially, the city was a well planned manufacturing hub of textiles. It was developed on the banks of River Merrimack. During the 19th century, Lowell flourished as an industrial area. Hence, a large number of immigrants came here in search of work.
Later in the 20th century, the city started facing a decline.
However, Lowell has now come out of the hard times. Lowell has humid continental weather. Hence, the summers are warm, while the winters are cold. Snowfall is regular in winters.
