Luray is the seat of Page County, located in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, USA. It covers an area of 12.3 sq km and has a population of around 7,000.
Originally, the area was home to migrating native tribes and was settled by European colonists in 1812. Luray was the site of many fierce encounters during the American Civil War.
Summers are hot and uncomfortable with an average high of 30°C. However, the temperatures tend to fall after sunset. Winters are cold with temperatures ranging from 7°C to –5°C and are accompanied by snow. Spring and fall are warm and pleasant.
Luray has a beautiful landscape endowed by the scenic beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the east and the Massanutten Mountains on the west. Luray is a popular tourist destination thanks to the Luray Caverns. The Shenandoah National Park is a great place for camping, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, hunting and mountain biking.
