Regarded as a National Historic Landmark, the Hay House—Palace of the South is perhaps one of the most advanced antebellum homes in America. Built in an Italian renaissance revival style, this mansion features beautiful eighteenth-century furnishings.
Another house listed on the National Register of Historic Homes is the Cannonball House and Museum. This antebellum home, built in a Greek revival style was the only house in Macon that was hit by a cannonball during a federal attack in 1864.
Overlooking the ancient Indian mounds of the Ocmulgee Old Fields, Fort Hawkins is another must visit. Another site of note is the Rose Hill Cemetery.
Other places of interest include Washington Memorial Library, Starcadia Entertainment Park, Federated Garden Club Center, Wesleyan College, Woodruff House, Sidney Lanier Cottage, Georgia Music Hall of Fame, Museum of Arts and Sciences, Georgia Sports Hall of Fame and Tubman African American Museum.
