Tourist Guide Augusta:

Augusta, located along the Kennebec River, is the capital city of the State of Maine, USA. Augusta serves as the county seat for Kennebec County.

Due to its head tide location of Kennebec River, Augusta experiences a coastal climate. Although, it is free from fog unlike other cities on the sea shore. Summers have moderate heat with temperatures rarely crossing 32.2°C. Winters are mild and cold with the three months of December, January and February having an average temperature of –5°C.

The approximate population of the city is 18,600. While it was officially declared as the state capital in 1827, Augusta was instituted as a city only in 1849.

Formerly known as the Pilgrim trading post, the city has now progressed into a major industrial and trade centre. It is the hub of all health and educational services in the region.
