Samantha Smith is famous in Maine for her letter to the Yuri Andropov, a soviet leader, in 1982. She was “Goodwill Ambassador” to US and Soviet and died on August 25, 1985. The Maine State Museum in Augusta, in the honor of Samantha Smith has erected a Bronze Statue which shows the girl with a bear cub at her feet and releasing a Dove. Samantha Smith Foundation has been founded by her mother.
