Brunswick: Attractions and more...
The two main museums situated in Brunswick are the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum and Bowdoin College Museum of Art. Maine is famous for its seafood (lobster, clams, shrimp and scallops) and the abundance of blue fish, cod and flounder.
As in other New England states, metal ores have also been of great importance in Maine, where there are limited sources of iron ore, manganese, copper, zinc, silver, gold, platinum and tin.
Among the non-metallic minerals are asbestos, sand and gravel, peat, granite, limestone, quartz, mica, feldspar, graphite and semi-precious stones. The industry includes Maine paper mills, footwear, leather goods, electronic equipment, processed food, clothing and textiles. Maine has numerous cultural institutions.
One of the most remarkable museums in the state is the Portland Art Museum, with an important collection of nineteenth-century American painting.
