Houlton town is located in Aroostook County in Maine. This town is the county seat for Aroostook County and is nicknamed as the Shire Town. Settled by Aaron Putnam and Joseph Houlton, the town was named after Joseph Houlton, who immigrated from Massachusetts in the year 1807. Houlton was officially incorporated as a town in 1831. The town is well known as being at the northern terminus of Interstate 95.
