New Gloucester is a town situated in Cumberland County in Maine in USA. The town covers a total area of 47.8 sq miles and has a population of 4, 803 as per the 2000 census, most of who are Whites.The town is on an elevation of 449 feet and is drained by the Royal River. The town is surrounded by Durham to the east, Raymond to the west, Auburn to the northeast, Poland to the northwest, Gray to the southwest and North Yarmouth and Pownal to the southeast.
The town has a cold climate with January being the coldest month and July the warmest. Snowfall is 11 inches on an average and is generally from November to March. There are a number of lakes, rivers, creeks and ponds in the town. The most popular activity of the Shaker community that lived here was farming and the appropriate soil in the region further enhanced this.
