Pineland Farms is a great place to visit in Gloucester in the winter and one can rent cross-country skis and snowshoes. The clean crisp air and the picturesque blanket of snow is just the thing you would love for outdoor sports, besides it is not crowded. Another tourist attraction is the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Museum, which is housed in one of the old Shaker villages which is still functional.
There are 6 buildings in the compound which display the history of the Shaker society and are open for public viewing. The other historic structures here is the 1883 Dwelling House, the 1910 garage, a 1794 Meetinghouse and the 340 acre Sabbathday Lake with its undeveloped seashore and public beach. There are regular guided 75 minutes tours to this active farm and one can have a look at the library as well as the gift shop. There are 27 exhibition rooms where one can know more about the culture, music, religion, architecture and designs of this community. Nearby are farmland, forests and apple orchards.
