Tourist Guide Saco

Saco is a city situated in York County in Maine in USA and lies besides the Saco Bay on the Gulf of Maine. The city covers a total area of 38.5 sq miles and is drained by the Saco River.

The city is surrounded by the city of Biddeford as well as other town such as Dayton, Buxton, Old Orchard Beach and Scarborough. The topography of the place includes several fields, beaches, forests and urban regions.

As per the 200 census the city had a population of 16,822 inhabitants. Saco originally known as Pepperrellborough was initially a small settlement with fishing and hunting as its economic activities.

The town later developed rapidly as hunting, farming, lumbering and ship building prospered. Now there are dozens of industries here, from cotton mills to iron and cigar factories. The architecture of the buildings in this town reflects the changes which took place from the 18th century till date. Saco has a mild climate as compared to the rest of the state.
