Assateague Island is a 37 mile of long barrier island and is best known for its herds of wild horses. These horse species is commonly subdivided into horses and ponies. The National Park Service offers details on these animals through internet and brochures. The Maryland horses are owned and managed by these park services that follow the population over generations.
