When to visit
Throughout Maryland, summer is the high season with warm weather and popular outdoor activities. The Atlantic coast resorts, Annapolis and Baltimore see substantial crowds in this season, through October when the weather is still fine for boating. Maryland has several wineries worth visiting especially on Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays. The best time to visit Maryland for wineries is from August through October, when wineries are most active. Year round festivals in the Brandywine Valley and Wilmington attract crowds’ as well. Mid to late May, Baltimore tends to be crowded for the Preakness, the second race in the Triple Crown. Further, western Maryland too attracts travelers year round, though spring can be slight chilly. The best time to travel to Maryland is also from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The beaches at this time are crowded and this is the perfect time for fishing, cycling, hiking, wildlife watching and for scenic drives. Winters are the best time for cross country skiing activities, less busy with the obviuos exception at the ski resorts in western Maryland. Overall, spring, early summer and fall are the preferable times to visit, the reason being milder climate and fewer crowds as well as off season prices.
