Amherst is 140 km away from the state capital Boston and is served by the Logan Airport of Boston and the Bradley Airport at Windsor Locks in Connecticut State.
The town more or less experiences a continental climate with warm summers (temperatures crossing around 25°C in the daytime) and severe winters with temperatures falling below the freezing point.
The town has a population of more than 35,000 people. A majority of the population consists of college students who attend classes at the 3 important state colleges in the city.
