South Boston is the neighborhood in Boston and is to the south of the Fort Point Channel. Formerly known as Dorchester Neck, it is at present known as Southie by its residents. This neighborhood is popular for being a working class Irish-American neighborhood. South Boston is home to some of the oldest public housing projects in United States. It is home to the first Vietnam veteran’s memorial in United States.
