Bourne had first been settled in the year 1640 as portion of town called ‘Sandwich’. Incorporation on the official basis took place in the year 1884.
The name ‘Bourne’ has been obtained from ‘Jonathan Bourne Sr.’, whose parent, i.e. Richard Bourne had served in Massachusetts General Court during settlement. He had also aided in finding settlement at Mashpee.
As per US Census Bureau, total area of Bourne is 136.8 sq. Km; out of which 22.53%25 consists of water. Geography of this place had been formed as per location on Cape Cod Canal and Buzzards Bay on its part.
According to census conducted in the year 2000, population of Bourne was 18721; with its density being 176.7 per sq. Km. Per capita income for the town was reported to be $22092. Around 7.1%25 of total population was found to be below poverty line; inclusive of 10.4%25 of the ones below 18 years of age.
