To the west of Pittsfield lies the Pittsfield State Forest which has a sixty five acre park where one can enjoy cross country skiing, hiking, swimming and camping. There are a number of country clubs within the city such as the Berkshire Rowing and Sculling society which is situated on the Onota Lake and the Pontoosuc Lake Country Club.
The Canoe Meadows Wildlife Sanctuary covers a total area of 264 acres of fields, woods and wetlands where one can enjoy skiing, water slides and go-karting.
Hancock Shaker Village is an outdoor open air museum reconstructed as a village dating back to the 18th century with a wide collection of manuscripts, textiles, Shaker artifacts and art and household articles.
Berkshire Museum is a natural history museum which displays a huge collection of various historical items such as Roman and Greek artifacts, an ancient mummy and fine art by American artists. The lower floor of the museum has an aquarium. One can also visit the nearby places such as Lenox, Ashley Falls, North Adams, Monterey, Great Barrington, Stockbridge and Shelburne Falls.
