Walpole had first been settled in the year 1659. At that time, it had been considered to be a portion of Dedham till official incorporation in the year 1724.
The name ‘Walpole’ has been derived from Sir Robert Walpole, i.e. ‘de facto’ 1st Prime Minister with respect to Great Britain.
