Waltham has attained sobriquet of ‘Watch City’ owing to its linkage with watch industry. It’s basically due to Waltham Watch Company; that went on to open its unit over here in the year 1854. This company held the credit of being the 1st one to have made watches along an ‘assembly line’. A ‘gold medal’ was won in the year 1876 at Philadelphia Centennial Exposition. Around forty million clocks, instruments, and watches had been produced prior to its closing down in the year 1957.
