The Detroit Public Library is the largest library system in Michigan established in 1865 and designed by Cass Gilbert. It was constructed with Vermont marble and serpentine Italian marble trim designed in an Italianate architectural style. It is also the main library having 23 neighborhood branches and this makes it the most valuable and accessible public institutions in Detroit.
