Opened in 1845, Belle Isle is situated in the middle of the Detroit River and downstream from Lake St. Clair. It’s a beautiful green park and spread over 982 acre of Island Park with a great conservatory. It is managed by the Detroit Recreation Department. Well connected to the rest of the city by the MacArthur Bridge, it is known as the largest island park in the United States. This park is home to the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory, a coast guard post and such clubs. At first, it was an island which was settled by French colonists in the 18th century. It is larger than the Central Park in New York City.
