Grand Rapids is a city located in Michigan, United States. Situated on the banks of the Grand River, the city lies to the east of Lake Michigan and to the south of Kalamazoo. The city has a total population of over 197,800 inhabitants.
The climate of the city is mainly influenced by the Grand River which helps regulate frost during winter. It is characterized by hot, humid summers and cold winters. Droughts are also common.
Initially inhabited by the Ottawa Indians, the area was later occupied by the Europeans. During the nineteenth century, the area became the world’s largest producer of furniture.
Furniture production, particularly office furniture, is the largest source of economy in Grand Rapids. Other important money-earners include automobile manufacturing, health service and tourism.Explore map
