The city of Jackson is situated in the south central area of Michigan. The city is known by the nicknames: The Rose City, as well as the Prison City. Jackson is a part of Central Michigan. As per the census of 2000, Jackson had a population of about 36,316. It was found in the year 1829, and is named after President Andrew Jackson. Jackson has the credit of being the birthplace of the Republican Party.
