The city is home to the Kalamazoo College which is often referred to as "K College” as well as to the Western Michigan University. Due to the college-town influence, the city has been noted as a center of arts. Due to the presence of a diverse population, hip hop, punk, and Celtic music has made its impact. A Tribal Style belly dance troupe named Boheme is from this city.
