Lansing is the capital city of the US state of Michigan. While a greater part of the city lies in Ingham County, a small portion falls under Eaton County.
The city lies at the junction of the Grand River and the Red Cedar. Lansing experiences a continental climate as well as a semi-marine climate. The average annual temperature of the city is 9°C. The average temperature in January is –5°C while the mean temperature in July is 21°C. Lansing is prone to tornadoes and occasionally has thunderstorms and windstorms.
The population of the city is 119,100 approximately. Formerly known for its automobile industry, the city is now seeing an increase in the number of technology companies, especially information technology and biotechnology. Michigan State University is one of the leading employers in the state.
