The city of Niles is situated near Berrien and Cass counties at Michigan. It is near the South Bend in Indiana. The total area is around 5.9 square miles (15.3 km²). Out of this 15.0 sq.km is land and water is 0.4 square kilometer. Thus 97% of the total area is land. Niles is located in the North American Eastern Time Zone which is UTC -5. The elevation of Niles is about 686 feet. The city is nicknamed as the ‘City of Four Flags’. The main newspaper of the town is the Niles Daily Star. As per the census of 2000, Niles had a population of about 12,204. It is believed that the town had been named after an editor of the Niles Register, a Baltimore newspaper, Hezekiah Niles. The city boasts of a heterogeneous racial mix. The break up is 82% White, 12% African American and around 4% Hispanic. Around 5096 households are there out of which around 10% of the population are below poverty line. The city’s per capita income is $16584.
