Saginaw is an American city of the state of Michigan. The population of the city in 2000 was 61 799 inhabitants. In 2006 it was estimated to have a population of 57,523  a decrease of 4276 (-6.9%25). Race and racial ethnic composition of the population of Saginaw includes 47.02 percentage of White, 43.26 percentage of African American, 12 percentage of  Hispanic and two or more races including Native Indians around  0.33 percentage and  Asians around  3.86 percentage.
The city is the administrative head quarter of the Saginaw County.
Saginaw County is at the centre of the lower peninsula of the State of Michigan. The name "Saginaw" is derived from the term "Ojibwa, Zaagiinang meaning" casting off ", probably referring to the Saginaw River.”Saginaw" should not be confused with the Saguenay region of Quebec, whose name is derived from the people of Algonquin.
