Traverse City is situated in the Michigan State. It is one of the major cities in the Grand Traverse County and a small part of the city extends to the Leelanau County. Traverse City is counted as the biggest city in the North Michigan area. According to the census of 2000 the population was about 14,532, and as per the census of 2007 the metropolitan area had a population of 142,075. Even with this medium population the Traverse City functions as the financial centre for neighboring seven counties. The town is considered to be the most important commercial centre in the Traverse City. The Traverse City follows the Home rule charter.
The important crop of the state is cherry; apart from cherry it has a major production of grapes. Also it is the major wine producer of the Midwest States.
