The Traverse City is nick named as the “cherry capital of the world”, as it hosts an annual festival which lasts for a week; it is usually celebrated in the month of July. The Traverse City has a mild climate which makes it suitable for tourism oriented industries to boom here. There are lots of fresh water beaches, golf resorts and the surrounding forest makes the city more attractive for tourism. Traverse City is ranked as the second most attractive tourist place.
Traverse City has its own minor base ball league team named as Traverse City Beach Bums. Another important sport of the city is the North American Hockey league.
Traverse City hosts the Interlochen Arts Festival, which is conducted at various venues in the Interlochen center for arts campus. The main features of the festival are its readings, plays, art exhibition; concerts etc… practised by students and artists. Another major festival of the city is the Film festival, which was started by Michael Moore.
