Formerly known as the Minnesota Zoological Gardens, the Minnesota Zoo is an AZA accredited zoo situated in Apple Valley in Minnesota. Opened in 1978, the zoo has many exhibits which attract visitors from across the world. The exhibits are arrayed in six themed areas, includes three themed walking trails that range from one to two miles in length. Some of the exhibit trails include Medtronic Minnesota Trail, Tropics Trail, Wells Fargo Family Farm and many such attractions. The zoo even has a theater named the Great Clips IMAX Theatre situated on its grounds. The Zoo is a state agency and differs from other zoos in Minnesota and United States. However, this zoo charges admission and sells annual memberships. It is home to the School of Environmental Studies. This zoo is home to 2,351 animals and around 447 species. There are many events held with a theme for the visitors, especially the children.
